The city’s Public Bicycle Sharing System was on Monday given a special award by the Union government’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs at the 10th Urban Mobility India Conference cum Expo 2017 in Hyderabad.

Trin Trin was selected for the award based on the “initiative for a tourist city to popularise NMT (non-motorised transport) in the form of bicycles”, stated the citation given with the award.

The award was handed over to Karnataka’s Minister for Urban Development R. Roshan Baig by Telangana’s Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development K.T. Rama Rao and Secretary to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Durga Shankar Mishra at the conference on Monday.

Mysuru Mayor M.J. Ravi Kumar, Commissioner of Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) Darpan Jain and Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner G. Jagadeesha were present on the occasion.

Speaking to The Hindu on the phone, Mr. Jagadeesha said the approvals had been received for setting up ten more docking stations as part of the first phase of the project. The places for setting up the docking stations had been identified and work will begin soon, he said.

DULT and MCC will shortly begin a survey for the second phase of Trin Trin, which includes covering extension areas of the city under the project. “Presently, the project has docking stations in the core areas. In the second phase, we plan to go to the extensions and cover more areas by setting up another 45 to 50 docking stations and adding more bicycles,” he said.
