Three workers electrocuted in Kodagu

Three workers in a coffee estate accidentally came into contact with an electricity line and were electrocuted in Doddapulikotu village in Napoklu police station limits, on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Dayan Thammaiah, 45, Anil, 44, and Thammiah’s wife, Kavitha, 36.

The three were among the labourers working on the estate and they were carrying a metal ladder which came into contact with an overhead live wire resulting in their death.

Another worker, identified as Sunitha, 32, is seriously injured and is battling for her life in the hospital, according to Kodagu Superintendent of Police Suman D. Penekar.

The village is located in the Ballamavati Gram Panchayat limits and the workers were engaged by the estate owner Madeyadanda Kunjappa.

The incident occurred around 11.30 a.m and the ladder, which was used in the work to trim trees, was more than 30 feet. Thammaiah and Kavitha had two children, who are minors.

Senior police officers of the Napoklu police station visited the spot and have registered a case.

This is the second such incident since April and three workers died under similar circumstances when working on an estate in Aruvathokkalu village, near Gonikoppa.
