Three killed by relatives over property dispute

Ingalgi village in Hukkeri taluk echoed with screams in the early hours of Sunday as a group of seven persons armed with sickles and machetes attacked Peersab Kasimsab Multani’s family.

A property dispute between three families is said to be the reason for the attack.

While Peersab’s sons Syed (26) and Akbar (24) died on the spot, his wife Banu (50) succumbed to her injuries at the district government hospital here.

Peersab (65), who sustained injuries on the head, face and arms, is undergoing treatment. Doctors have ruled out any threat to his life. Ramzan (20), Peersab’s youngest son, who suffered major injuries on his arms, has been referred to a private hospital in the city.

Key witness The police said that Syed’s wife Shabana was a key witness. She suffered an injury in her left arm and is undergoing treatment. She told presspersons at the hospital that there was a prolonged dispute over sharing 4 acres of land between Peersab and his two brothers, who lived with their families in the same village.

She said that around 1 a.m. on Sunday, Akbar, who was sleeping outside, was attacked first. On hearing his screams, the rest of the family woke up and rushed outside only to be attacked as well.

Too late

Though a few residents in the village woke up and rushed to help, it was too late.

The police said the injured and the bodies were shifted to the district government hospital around 5 a.m. After post-mortem, the bodies were handed over to relatives. A murder case has been registered at the Yamkanmardi police station. Most of the accused have been identified and the police are on the lookout for them.
