The Punjab police have arrested three persons at Bhadravati city for allegedly cheating a Congress leader there to the tune of Rs. 2.4 crore by assuring to get a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) distribution agency allotted to him.
The police gave the names of the arrested as Annadorai, his son Parthib, and Nagaraj, all residents of Bhadravati.

According to the police, in 2012, Annadorai and Parthib had lied to Rakesh Verma, a Congress leader in Ludhiana, that they were closely associated with the leaders of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), who were the ministers in the erstwhile United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre. Later, they introduced Mr. Verma to Nagaraj, who lied that he was a senior bureaucrat, working with the Ministry of Oil and assigned with the work of clearing the files related to applications seeking allotment of LPG agencies.
Money received
The trio had received a sum of Rs. 2.4 crore from Mr. Verma, assuring him the allotment of a LPG distribution agency, and later went missing.

Mr. Verma had lodged a complaint with the Ludhiana police in this connection. The Ludhiana police had tried to recover the money from the arrested with the help of Bhadravati police, a few months ago. As the cheques presented by them were not honoured, they were arrested on Saturday.
According to the police, Annadorai had cheated several persons in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Mysuru in the same manner.
