Thefts, chain-snatching: 13 arrested

The police arrested 13 persons on the charges of chain-snatching and thefts and recovered valuables worth more than Rs. 21 lakh.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Anupam Agarwal said the accused included three alleged chain-snatchers, two of them from Maharashtra.

Qambar Ali Sartaj Ali Irani (30) residing near Railway Station in Jaisingpur of Kolhapur district and Qurban Ali alias Farman Ali Lala Irani (29) of Sahyadri Colony in Sangli were wanted in connection with five chain-snatching cases.

The police recovered gold ornaments, a car and a motorbike from them.

Abhishek Kumar Hiremath (29) of Nirmal Nagar of Modga in Belagavi taluk was also arrested and the police recovered a gold mangalsutra and a necklace and a motorbike. The APMC Police Inspector arrested Tahir Bandenawaz Khati (20), Abutala Khalid Nesri (21) and Saif Irfan Jatti (20) and recovered a laptop, four mobile hand sets, three wrist-watches, a motorbike and cash.

Riyazuddin Miya Kayamuddin (32) and Naushad Alam Kalam Devan (30), from Motihari in Bihar, were arrested on the charge of theft of mobile handsets.

Suresh Samson Suryapalli (23) of Kakti was arrested on the charge of motorbike theft.

Mr. Agarwal returned the golden ornaments to the woman and said that all the accused were remanded to judicial custody for further investigation.
