SSLC results: Third language has the highest number of centum, zero marks and pass percentage this year

Third language, which includes Hindi, Kannada, English and six other languages, seems to be a tricky subject for students as the highest number of centums as well as the highest number of zero marks was recorded for the third language.

Of the total 9,256 centums bagged by students in various subjects, the highest number of centums — 3,107 — was in the third language. Similarly, of the total 2,833 zero marks obtained in various subjects, the maximum was in the third language — by 1,142 students.

The highest pass percentage was also in the third language, with the 96.57 per cent students clearing the paper. The lowest pass percentage — 87.47 — was in science. The pass percentage in first language was 91.85 per cent, second language – 92.84 per cent, mathematics – 87.84 per cent and social science – 90.6 per cent.

36 schools have zero p.c. passes Thirty-six schools across the State secured zero per cent passes. They include 34 unaided schools and two aided schools. Kalaburagi district has 10 such schools, the highest in the State. Commissioner for Public Instruction Mohammad Mohsin said notices would be issued to such schools to ask them to improve their scores. A department source, however, said a similar exercise in the past had not yielded any results.

Meanwhile, 2,511 schools have registered cent per cent passes — 1,440 unaided, 819 government, and 252 aided schools. The educational district with the highest number of schools with 100 per cent results is Bengaluru (North), while Gadag has the least — 21 schools.

Best pass per cent by unaided schools

Across various school managements, private school managements appear to have secured the best pass percentage — 89.19. Aided schools come second with 83.30 per cent passes and government schools secured 83.09 per cent passes.

However, experts pointed out that the trend of private schools doing well was because many private schools weed out academically weak students. Government schools also have the lowest pass percentage as they attract students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.

Results of 150 students from unauthorised school withheld

The results of 150 students from eight unauthorised schools have been withheld. Commissioner for Public Instruction Mohammad Mohsin said the results were withheld as the students from unauthorised schools were allowed to write the exams as private candidates, but they had approached the High Court as they wanted to be considered as regular candidates. While regular candidates will have 20 per cent for internal assessment and the remaining for public exam, private candidates will have all marks for the public exam.

What is new in this year's marks card?

The SSLC marks card for regular fresh candidates has undergone a change this year with grades being a new feature. While the marks card had scores and percentages hitherto, this year there is a break-up for the internal assessment and external examination. Another portion of the marks card includes co-scholastic subjects where students have been graded on physical and health education, attitude and values, work experience and art education. Students will get a cumulative grade average. Students should get a minimum of 30 per cent in each subject and an aggregate of 35 per cent in the external examination as well as aggregate to pass.

Supplementary exam

The SSLC supplementary exams will be conducted from June 15 and 22. The last date to pay the fees is May 21 and the applications may be sent till May 23. The fee for one subject is Rs. 200, for two subjects – Rs. 250 and for three or more subjects it is Rs. 315. Candidates can apply either for re-totalling of marks or photocopies of the answer scripts before May 22. The applications can be sent by post or through BangaloreOne or KarnatakaOne. In case of revaluation, candidates can apply within seven days of receiving the photocopies of the answer scripts. The fee for re-totalling and photocopies for one subject is Rs. 150, Rs. 300 for photocopy for one subject, and Rs. 700 for revaluation for one subject.

Laptops for toppers

The first three State toppers as well as the taluk toppers of the SSLC exam from government schools will be awarded laptop computers. Commissioner for Public Instruction Mohammad Mohsin said that the move was aimed at encouraging students of government schools who had fared well in the exam.

Highest number of C-plus

Of the total 6.68 lakh students who passed, 1.7 lakh students have secured C-plus (50 to 60 per cent) grade. As many as 27,389 students have secured A-plus grade (90 to 100 per cent).
