The curtain falls on Chinnara Mela

The Chinnara Mela, a summer camp for children organised by the Hassan City Municipal Council, concluded with cultural programmes at Hasanamba Kalakshetra here on Friday. Children exhibited their talent on the last day in the presence of their parents and guests.

The children, aged between seven and 14, had been at the camp since April 20. A team of theatre personalities, led by P. Shadrak and Anil Revuru, conducted the camp, where children were taught dance, drama and many other forms of art.

The children staged six plays, directed by the theatre personalities who worked as resource persons at the camp. The programmes began at 2 p.m. and continued till 9 p.m. on Friday. The children performed Pooja Kunita, Somana Kunita and Veeragasase as well.

Mahadev Hadapad, a theatre director, participating at the valedictory programme, said children should be encourage0d to take up cultural activities which will help their intellectual growth. He said children should not be restricted to the school syllabus alone. CMC president H.S. Anil Kumar the council was overwhelmed by the response to this first-of-its-kind camp. “All the members of CMC supported this event. We will continue to hold this event every year,” he said.
