‘The cub is under distress’

The male tiger cub shifted to Mysuru zoo for treatment from Nagarahole National Park on Thursday has no external injuries, but is under distress, according to zoo authorities.

“The cub is weak since it had not eaten anything. It seems that the animal was starving for many days and therefore it cannot be treated immediately. We are keeping a close watch on its health,” said zoo Executive Director B.P. Ravi on Friday

Mr. Ravi told

The Hindu that the cub ate a little on Thursday night and defecated on Friday morning. This indicated that the process of recovery had begun, he said. “The cub has been isolated and is being monitored by the zoo veterinarians for the reason that it has lost two of its siblings. I cannot say anything at this stage on its health but I have been assured by my veterinarians of its survival chances. It is weighing about 20 kg against the normal weight of around 50 kg for its age,” he said.
