Tally products win Frost & Sullivan award
Global research and analysis firm Frost & Sullivan has awarded Tally.ERP9 and Shoper 9 the Emerging ERP Application of the Year award in the small- and medium-business category. Tally.ERP9 is an enterprise resource planning (ERP) tool that enables organisations to integrate and manage information from within and outside their institutions. Shoper 9 is an enterprise retail software suite that allows retailers to sort, batch and grade products across locations in order to manage inventories better.

Kaspersky Lab recently announced the release of the new version of Kaspersky Mobile Security software, a security solution designed specifically for smartphones running on the Android platform. The product comes with a new tool for checking suspicious links in text messages and a new ‘alarm’ feature that helps find lost smartphones
The solution will be available from the Kaspersky Lab online store and on the Sakri online store. It will be also available in IT retail outlets and major large format retail outlets.
Registered users of previous versions can upgrade to Kaspersky Mobile Security free of cost, but they will have to reinstall the application.

Aadhaar-based authentication
Telecom company Reliance Communications recently announced that it is ready to offer the first Aadhaar-based authentication process to activate a mobile phone connection. The company claimed that the concept has been tested in both company-owned outlets as well as in multi-brand retail outlets offering mobile services.
Reliance claimed mobile customers can soon walk into any retailer in the country with their Aadhaar card, after which the retailer can submit the prospective customer’s profile to the UIDAI server for “real time authentication of the identity of the customer”.
After authentication, the details of the prospective customer can be accessed online from the UIDAI server, and there can be “immediate activation of the connection”, it claimed.
Anurag Prashar, president, Services, Reliance Communications, said the service is “completely ready for national roll out”. Services can be rolled out after guidelines are issued by the Department of Telecommunications, the company said.
Co-op. banks adopt IBM data centre solutions
IBM Corp recently announced that four cooperative banks in India — Cooperative Bank of Rajkot Ltd. (Gujarat), Shivajirao Bhosale Sahakari Bank Ltd. (Maharashtra), Goa State Cooperative Bank Ltd. and Tumkur Veerashaiva Cooperative Bank Ltd. (Karnataka), — have adopted IBM’s data centre solutions. The deployment of IBM’s Integrated Server Room (ISR) solution would enable these banks to become “cost effective and energy efficient”, an IBM statement said. The deployment would enable the banks to offer new services such as ATM withdrawals, mobile banking, and online banking. The data centre, which was specifically designed for small and medium enterprises, would reduce energy consumption by one-fourth, IBM claimed.
Study on BYOD in the workplace
Cisco and the Data Security Council of India recently unveiled the findings of a joint study titled ‘Reinventing the network in the context of security’. The survey, based on interviews with 90 ‘security leaders’ and chief information officers from various industry verticals in India, found that although bring your own device (BYOD) has boosted employee productivity, the security threats they pose are also becoming clearer. The survey found that two-third of security leaders encouraged employees to use mobile devices for work, and 44 per cent specified the class of device to be used. Almost 60 per cent said they allowed personal email access at the workplace. Threat and malware protection, quarantine of ‘non-standard’ devices, enforceability of network policies on mobile devices, encryption of communication and data and security scanning of mobile devices were some of the key concerns of the respondents.
