T. Thimmaiah, former Agriculture Secretary and son-in-law of the former Chief Minister Kengal Hanumanthaiya, passed away in a private hospital here on Thursday. He was 87.
He is survived by his wife, Vijayalakshami, and three sons, including Sripad Kengal, chairman of the Kengal Hanumanthaiya Memorial Trust.
According to Mr. Sripad, Mr. Thimmaiah, an IAS officer, who did his Ph.D. in Geology from the University of London, had served as director of Bharat Gold Mines Ltd., chairman and managing director of Mysore Minerals Ltd. and director of Karnataka Dairy Development Corporation.

Mr. Thimmaiah had established the Golden Valley Institute of Engineering at Kolar Gold Fields to cater to the higher education needs of the backward Kolar district. The institution was later renamed T. Thimmaiah Institute of Technology.
Mr. Thimmaiah was cremated in the city on Thursday.
In his condolence message, Minister for Energy D.K. Shivakumar said the State had lost a pioneer in the field of exploration of mineral deposits in the country.
