Supply clean drinking water, Mandya ZP president tells officials

She also directs that all disused borewells be capped

The monthly Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) meeting was held at the Zilla Panchayat auditorium here on Thursday.

Water being supplied to several parched areas is not safe for drinking and hence steps should be taken to ensure supply of pure water, officials of the Rural Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation wing of the Mandya ZP were instructed.

The officials were asked to keep a tab on the purity of water being supplied to the villages through tankers. The issue was raised by ZP president J. Premakumari.

According to her, the persons concerned were supplying contaminated water to the parched areas taking advantage of the absence of a mechanism to check the water being supplied through tankers. She instructed the officials concerned to ensure supply of clean water. The officials were also told to complete drinking water schemes being taken up by various departments.

The officials of the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company were told to take measures to ensure supply of proper electricity to the drinking water schemes and shift electric poles and transformers from school premises. She expressed her displeasure over the Excise Department not taking steps to close/shift a liquor shop situated 11 meters from the government school at Santhebachahalli.

She also ordered capping all defunct borewells in the district.
