Sundarnath Suvarna dead

Sundarnath Suvarna (60), renowned cinematographer of Kannada films, died here on Tuesday.

According to his family sources, he was suffering from cancer for some time. Mr. Suvarna is survived by his wife and three daughters.

Minister of State for Kannada and Culture Umashree, writers Chandrashekar Kambar and Baragur Ramachandrappa, director Shivamani, veteran cinematographer B.S. Basavaraj and film producer Sa.Ra. Govind paid tributes to Mr. Suvarna at his house.

Mr. Suvarna was cinematographer for over 150 films and had also produced and directed some films. A native of Mangalore, Mr. Suvarna initially worked with his father in a textile factory. He learnt the art of photography by using the camera of the owner of the textile firm. Later, he entered the Kannada film industry as a still photographer.

Aparoopada Athithigalu was his debut film.

His cinematography for Rajakiya and Nammora Mandara Hoove brought him both name and fame. Sri Manjunatha, Mussanje Matu, Chellata, Amrutha VarshiniAntha, Anuraga Sangama, Lock Up Death, and Golibar are some of his other films.

The State government recently honoured him with the Rajyotsava award.
