Students of the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS) took out a protest march here on Thursday to oppose the Medical Council of India’s decision to extend the duration of the MBBS course by two-and-a-half-years. Terming it a “life sentence”, the students demanded that the MCI rescind the decision. The students staged a dharna at the Deputy Commissioner’s office. They held placards with slogans such as “Don’t make MBBS a life sentence”, “Add years to life not to MBBS” and “Don’t wound the healers”.

The students submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.
