Stray cattle pose danger for motorists in Yadgir town

It’s a harrowing experience for motorists, particularly two-wheeler riders, to negotiate some roads in Yadgir town during night because of the stray cattle menace.

Poor street lighting — a common problem in the town — makes it all the more difficult for motorists. There have been cases of two-wheeler riders sustaining injuries after hitting cattle resting on poorly-lit roads. One such notorious stretch is between the Central Bus Terminus and Basaveshwar Gunj on the interstate highway connecting Yadgir and Hyderabad.

T.N. Bheemu Naik, a social activist, said Yadgir City Municipal Council (CMC) officials were to be blamed for the problem of cattle resting on roads. The authorities should initiation action against the cattle owners, he said.

CMC Commissioner Khaja Moinuddin said all efforts made so far to persuade cattle owners not to let the animals on streets had failed. A decision on issuing notice to the owners of such cattle would be taken in the next general body meeting of the council, Mr. Moinuddin said.
