State to bear medical expenses of KFD patients

D.C. Thammanna, Minister for Transport and district in charge Minister, has said that the State government would bear the expenses incurred for providing treatment to patients suffering from Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD), also known as monkey fever.

In a press release, Mr. Thammanna has said that the State government would take all possible measures to tackle the spread of the disease.

If the health condition of the patients become critical, the district administration has been directed to shift such patients to private hospitals in Shivamogga city or in Udupi district, for advanced treatment. The State government would bear the expenses incurred for providing treatment for the patients at private hospitals, he added.

Mr. Thammanna is scheduled to visit Aralagodu Grama Panchayat in Sagar taluk, the epicentre of the KFD outbreak, on Sunday and will interact with the residents.

He will also conduct a meeting with the officials of the Health and Family Welfare Department and Forest Department in Sagar on measures to be taken to prevent the spread of the disease.
