K. S. Eshwarappa, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council addressing presspersons in Vijayapura on Saturday.

K.S. Eshwarappa, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, has asserted that despite D V Sadananda Gowda being removed from position of Union Railway Minister, the BJP would ensure the implementation of all railway projects in the State.

Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, he however rebutted the speculations that Mr. Gowda was removed from the important portfolio since he was found inefficient to handle it.

“It is the prerogative of the Prime Minister to give which ministry to which person, but it certainly does not mean that Mr. Gowda was inefficient, however the reason for his removal is best known to the Prime Minister himself,” Mr. Eshwarappa said.

He reiterated that projects for the State would not be compromised, irrespective of who is the Railway Minister.

Anti-superstition law

With regard to the demand from seers for enacting the anti-superstition law in the State, the Former Minister said religious beliefs are a personal matter and the government should not interfere. Though he did not directly reveal whether he favours or opposes such an Act, he said that the party would see what kind of law the government will bring if it has any such intentions.

“All I can say that the government must take people into confidence before bringing any such law that has the potential for serious ramifications since it is sensitive issue,” Mr. Eshwarappa said.

Tainted ministers

Mr. Eshwarappa also said that the BJP would continue its agitation against the inclusion of ‘tainted’ Ministers in the Congress government until they are dropped, including K.J. George, Dinesh Gundurao, Mahadev Prasad and QamarulIslam. He gave the example of Santosh Lad being dropped from the ministry.

BJP seeks to know what “legal and illegal kiss” is

K.S. Eshwarappa, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, sought a clarification from Home Minister K.J. George on what in his view is “legalised kiss” and “illegal kiss.”

Mr. Eshwarappa was referring to Mr. George’s statement about allowing the ‘kiss of love’ campaign if it is done in a “legal manner”, failing which the police would be given a free hand to take necessary action.

“I want to know from the Minister what is a legalised kiss and what is illegal kiss, if he gives some clarity, then people of the State could follow it without any fear,” he said.
