Srirangapatna temple premises cleaned

Volunteers cleaning the historical Sri Ranganatha temple premises in Srirangapatna in Mandya district on Sunday.

Members of Sriranga Sneha Balaga and Snehitaru at Srirangapatna cleaned the premises of the historical Sri Ranganatha temple on Sunday.

In a four-hour cleaning operation, they collected several bags of waste materials including polythene covers, dried flowers and other non-degradable waste from the temple premises.

The volunteers also removed weeds and dry plants from the temple area and requested the visitors and devotees to keep the premises of Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple neat and tidy.

They urged the temple authorities and Srirangapatna Town Municipal Corporation (TMC) to take against the shopkeepers around the temple premises, if they were found dumping waste materials at open places.

The shopkeepers should have garbage collection bins. And, the TMC should scientifically collect and dispose waste materials from the temple premises, they urged.

“We have requested the devotees not to throw their clothes and pooja materials near the temple and in Cauvery river,” a volunteer told The Hindu .

Chandru, Girish, Sandesh, Varun, Nandish, Manu, Shreyas and others were present.
