SPS office assistant 'threatened'

November 23, 2013 02:39 pm | Updated May 26, 2016 08:48 am IST - HUBLI:

Just within a day after Minister for Infrastructure and Information Santosh Lad tendered his resignation, the office assistant of the Founder President of Samaj Parivartana Samudaya (SPS) S.R. Hiremath, who has sought Mr. Lad’s resignation for his alleged involvement in illegal mining, has been threatened.

The incident occurred at the office of SPS at Sadhanakeri in Dharwad, when the woman assistant had come early to the office on Saturday to remind mediapersons about Mr. Hiremath’s scheduled press conference in Hubli.

“I was told by her that a group of 5-6 persons barged into the office, asked for me, warned of consequences and said that they would teach me a lesson. They reportedly ransacked what was kept on the table and left the place immediately after,” Mr. Hiremath told presspersons during the scheduled press conference held in Hubli on Saturday a little later.

He said that he immediately spoke to the Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad, who in turn spoke to the Police Commissioner. Police personnel then came to the office.

Mr. Hiremath said that he was yet to visit the office and based on the information given to him clarified that it was not an attack, but only a threat. However he said that he didn’t know who was behind the incident.

He said that the Dharwad Suburban Police had taken the statement of the office assistant and were investigating.
