The State Police Complaints Authority (SPCA) has sent a proposal to the government to provide a separate investigation team for the authority to enable it to function effectively, A.S. Pachchapure, chairman, SPCA, said.
Speaking at a programme at Dharwad Bar Association on Friday, Mr. Pachchapure said a special investigation team comprising of five police officers and supporting staff was needed to probe complaints. The authority has district-level units and a State-level body. All complaints pertaining to misbehaviour, harassment, dereliction of duty, etc., by the police from the rank of Constable to Deputy Superintendent of Police will be looked into. Since the complaints have to be studied in detail and the decision has to be taken considering all evidence carefully, a separate team is required. A proposal to this effect has been sent to the government, he added.
The authority, besides probing complaints against the police, will also try to empower the police in maintaining law and order.

M.R. Kamble, member, SPCA, said members have toured 13 districts in last three months and tried to create awareness among the people about the SPCA. He appealed to the lawyers to enlighten the clients about SPCA.
