Pulakeshinagar police on Friday arrested a software engineer who allegedly burned a woman to death at her home earlier this week.

The suspect, Arun Kumar, and the victim Bharani Kumar (26) were colleagues who shared a close friendship. However, she quit the company and married someone else following pressure from her family,

Sources said that even after her marriage, Arun tried to meet her. On the fateful day, he went to her residence in Jai Bharath Nagar, when she was alone. In the ensuing argument, Bharani fell unconscious. Arun, the police said, then carried her to the bed and set her on fire, before fleeing with a mobile phone and some gold jewellery.
