Six held on the charge of distributing liquor during polling

The Hassan police on Thursday night conducted raids at different places in the district and seized liquor and cash worth over Rs. 14,000, and arrested six persons. The raids were conducted following reports of some contestants of gram panchayat elections trying to woo voters by distributing liquor.

The Yeslur police arrested Balu (38) from Attihalli in Sakleshpur tlaluk and seized Rs. 3,000 in cash, liquor bottles worth over Rs. 3,000 and a car. The arrested is contesting for Hongadahalla Gram Panchayat. The Yeslur police have registered a case.

The Saklehpur police took four persons on the charge of distributing liquor bottles among voters in Mugali, a village in Sakleshpur taluk. The names of the arrested have been given as Mohan Kumar, Devaraj, Ravi and Revanna. The police seized liquor worth over Rs. 700 from them. The Sakleshpur Rural police have registered a case.

In another incident, the Hassan Rural police arrested Rokkappa (46) from Veerapura in Hassan taluk for stocking liquor bottles and seized liquor worth Rs. 8,000 from him.
