Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader from Chikkodi, Mahantesh M. Kavatagimath, MLC has requested Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to ensure that Maharashtra releases water from its Kalammawadi and Koyna dams in Kolhapur and Satars districts into Krishna river to provide drinking water to the residents and live stock living along the river in the down stream.

He said the water level in both Krishna and its tributary Dudhaganga River had become stagnant leading to pollution and further resulting in deaths of fishes and also making it non-potable for drinking purpose. For reasons which could not be immediately ascertained, Maharashtra had stopped releasing water from Koyana dam across Krisha river and Kalammawadi dam across Dudhaganga river for the past few couple of days, resulting in stagnation and pollution of water and further creating during water shortage in villages of Kallol, Manjari, Yadur, Ingali, Karadaga, Sadalga, Examba, Janwad, Malikwad and few other habitations along the two rivers flowing through Chikkodi taluk in the downstream.

He also urged the district administration to take up the matter immediately with their counterparts in Kolhapur and Satara and prevail upon them to release water immediately.
