With the Assembly elections fast approaching, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday took part in a series of events in Mysuru district.
Mr. Siddaramaiah, who arrived here on Monday, visited Nanjangud, the temple town, to inaugurate the newly constructed Kanaka Community Hall behind the bus-stand. He also laid the foundation stones for Shaadi Mahals and a community hall for Christians in the town.
Speaking after inaugurating the Kanaka Community Hall, the Chief Minister said the government had released ₹2.5 crore for the construction of Kanaka Bhavan and added that many had contributed towards the project. He announced that ₹25 crore had been sanctioned to the town for carrying out various development works under ‘Nagaruttana’ scheme, which will be implemented by the town municipality.

Mr. Siddaramaiah said ₹8 crore had been sanctioned for the construction of Shaadi Mahals and ₹4.5 crore for construction of concrete roads and underground drainage facility in Muslim localities of the town. He said ₹2 crore had been sanctioned for the welfare of Christians and ₹60 lakh for Jains. Minister in charge of Mysuru district H.C. Mahadevappa, Chamarajanagar MP R. Dhruvanarayana and others were present.
Mr. Siddaramaiah later addressed his supporters in Jayapura hobli in Mysuru taluk, which is part of Chamundeshwari constituency. He had announced to contest from this constituency instead of Varuna, which he currently represents in the State Assembly.
