Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who is also in-charge of Ramanagaram district, offered a pooja and ‘bagina’ at the Arkavati dam (Harobele dam) in Ramanagaram district on Thursday.
The dam, constructed across the Arkavati, a tributary of the Cauvery, in Kanakapura taluk of Ramanagaram district, is one of the dams constructed for supplying water for irrigation. It has received a good quantum of water owing to copious rainfall in its catchment areas in the last few days. Mr. Shivakumar, accompanied by a host of officials and political leaders, visited the dam and offered the ‘bagina’. The water stored will significantly help farmers, mainly sericulture farmers, for their agricultural needs, he said. He said the the State government is contemplating various irrigation projects in and around Shivanasamudra and Mekedatu. D.K. Suresh, MP, S. Ravi, MLC, B.R. Mamatha, Deputy Commissioner of Ramanagaram, Ramanagaram ZP CEO C.P. Shylaja ,and others were present.
