Responding to Wednesday’s political drama, the former Chief Minister and State Janata Dal (Secular) president H.D. Kumaraswamy said: “Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has done exactly what B.S. Yeddyurappa did to others”.

This is not the first time the Karnataka Assembly Speaker’s office was misused by those in power.

When BJP resorted to ‘Operation Kamala’, the Speaker’s office was used to meet the party’s ends. Later, when 14 rebel legislators were disqualified, the Speaker’s office burnt the midnight oil and worked till 5 a.m.

When the former Minister B. Sriramulu resigned, the resignation letter was kept pending for three months, where as Channapatna legislator Ashwath’s resignation was accepted within five minutes, Mr. Kumaraswamy said.

The BJP government has lowered the image of the Speaker’s office, which was once held by people such as Vaikunta Baliga and others. “The BJP is the first government in the State that has violated all the laws,” he said.

The JD(S) has formed three teams to finalise the list of party candidates for the elections to Legislative Assembly in the parliamentary board meeting held here on Wednesday.

Each of the three teams has been allotted 10 districts. The team members will travel to these districts for five days.

They will interact with grassroots workers and sort out their differences. The party will decide to allot ticket, following the recommendations of these teams, he said.
