H.S. Shankaralinge Gowda, four-time MLA, on Saturday resigned from the Legislative Assembly. He is all set to join the Janata Dal (Secular).

The number of BJP MLAs in the Assembly has now dropped to 104.

Speaker K.G. Bopaiah received Mr. Gowda’s resignation. However, it is yet to be accepted.

He was elected to the Assembly from Chamarajanagar constituency in Mysore. The Speaker has also not accepted the resignations of D.S. Suresh (Tarikere), Narasimha Nayak (Raju Gowda) (Shahpur) and Katakdhond Vittal Dhondiba (Nagathan). They submitted their resignations a few days ago. Mr. Bopaiah, on the other hand, has accepted the resignation of C.P. Yogeshwar, the former Minister for Forests.

After submitting his resignation, Mr. Gowda hit out at the party for its “failure to respond to the people’s grievances” during the last four years.

“I am disappointed with the developments in the BJP, which did not keep its promise of giving me a ministerial berth and did not respect my loyalty. There is no future for honest men in the BJP,” he said.

He, however, appreciated the leadership qualities of the former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and said the Janata Dal (Secular) would come to power in the next Assembly polls.
