The seventh title in the ‘Marga series’, a collection of research articles in Kannada by research scholar M.M. Kalburgi, was released here on Saturday.

Writer Rahmat Tarikere said that through his research, Kalburgi had tried to search the identity of Karnataka with a new perspective. The qualities of contest, opposition, defiance and exploration, which were the features of seasoned researchers, were well reflected in the Marga volumes. However, the absence of a philosophical touch in his religious research woks led to several misconceptions.

Kalburgi’s demise had created a vacuum in the literary and intellectual world, he said.

Writer Mallika Gahanti expressed concern over the dwindling space in society for divergent opinions on any given subject. She stressed the need for writers and intellectuals to express their thoughts in a language understandable to the common people. Blaming a section of the media for misinterpreting Kalburgi’s quotes from Jnanpith award winner U. R. Ananthamurthy’s works during a speech, Ms. Ghanti said Kalburgi was pained more by the silence of the fellow writers at that time.
