Seven farm labourers die in road accident in Vijayapura

The mangled remains of the tractor that met the accident near Muttagi cross of Basavanabagewadi taluk of Vijayapura district on Tuesday.

Seven persons including five women, a man and a 13-year-old girl have died and four others have sustained serious injuries in a road accident near Muttagi cross of Basavanabagewadi taluk of Vijayapura district on Tuesday.

According to the police, the deceased were farm laborers going for a harvest work. The police said that the accident took place when a lorry going towards Almatti, rammed into the tractor in which the victims were sitting.

The deceased have been identified as Hussainbi Makadar (35), Boramma Talwar (18), Sunanda (25), Rupa Rakkasgi (28), Jayashri Kusbal (21), Kaveri Abalapur (13) and Ismail Shirwar (36) the driver.

Six persons died on the spot while a girl succumbed to injuries in the district hospital where five injured people were shifted. The bodies were shifted to the mortuary of Basavanabagewadi taluk government hospital for autopsy.

The police said that the lorry had Haryana State registration. While there was no major damage for the lorry, the tractor broke into pieces and mangled remains scattered on and off the road.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, D. Randeep and Superintendent of Police, D. Prakash visited the government hospital and met the injured.

The Basavanabagewadi police have registered the case and investigating.
