Setting-up Tourist Plaza in the offing

Deputy Commissioner, D. Randeep has said that in order to provide single window system for tourists coming to Vijayapura, the District Administration has submitted a proposal to set-up a Tourist Plaza at old Circuit House.

In a release here, he said that the some 1.10 acre land had been identified and the project plan of Rs. 1.70 crore has been submitted to the government for approval.

“The officials of Tourism Department will shortly be visiting from Bengaluru for preparing a blueprint of the project”, Mr. Randeep said.

Explaining the features of the proposed plaza, the official said that it would 24x7 working office for the visitors where a mini-video theatre will be set up which would display a documentary about visiting the tourist places in the district.

“The building would have an international­standard hotel to serve cuisine of various countries, a platform to showcase the local cultural talent and stalls for selling traditional items of the district. The visitors could collect tickets for various monuments and also could get local transport facility at the plaza itself”, he said.

Mr. Randeep said that approval has been given to utilize Rs. 20 lakh granted to Tourism Department for constructing roads, toilets and pedestrians at Barakaman, Jamia Masjid and Asar Mahal. Besides this, hoardings providing information about visiting places would be installed near bus stand, Railway station and other prominent places.

He also said that the District Administration was contemplating to convert Anand Mahal into a cultural hub for artists.

Mr. Randeep said that the lecturers of History Department of Karnataka State Women’s University would be asked to identify the monuments of the district that needed renovation.

Based on their report, the proposal would be sent to the government for making necessary renovation.
