In the light of an increase in rape cases in the State, the Lok Satta Party has demanded that the State government set up more all-woman police stations. It has also sought a provision for registering police complaints online.
Working president of the party N.S. Mukund told presspersons here on Monday that the police should attend to cases of atrocity on women immediately and the culprits should be punished.
“Of the 512 all-woman police stations across the country, only six were in the State. And, two of them were in Bangalore city. The number of women police personnel is not corresponding to the population of women. At least, there should an equal number of men and women police personnel in all stations. Also, CCTV cameras should also be installed at sensitive public places,” he said. On the rape of a girl at school, he said the government’s responsibility should not end with directing schools to follow guidelines. “The police should ensure that schools are implementing the guidelines strictly.”
