Chairperson of the Karnataka State Women’s Commission Manjula Manasa has said that the commission will recommend to the State government to introduce issues related to prevention of child abuse in the school curriculum.
It is necessary to sensitise children on issues related to sexual misconduct to help safeguard themselves from abuse.
A discussion will be held with Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Rathnakar in this regard shortly, Ms. Manasa said told presspersons on Thursday. Sensitisation programmes on child sexual abuse are being held for students in several schools in Bengaluru at present. The commission wants the issue to become part of the curriculum starting from fifth grade.

It is necessary to hold a workshop on child abuse for teachers also, Ms. Manasa said. The commission will conduct orientation programmes for personnel serving at Santwana women’s helpline centres on new laws related to prevention of domestic violence and atrocities.
