Sand lorries in Mysuru district began their indefinite strike from Tuesday in protest against the Government’s refusal to issue them permits to transport sand.
Several sand lorry owners and drivers parked their vehicles at the truck stand on Mysuru-Ooty Road and staged a demonstration against the Government.
Mysuru District Lorry Drivers' Association President Kodandaramu said there were about 3,000 sand lorries in Mysuru district including about 2,000, which plied in the City alone.

"From tomorrow, the lorries will stop transporting bricks and jelly stones as well. Only if the construction activity comes to a grinding halt will the authorities wake up to our problem", he added.
It may be mentioned here that the Mr. Kodandaramu had urged the Government to either move to court to get they stay in sand extraction from river-bed vacated or identify spots on the river banks from where sand can be extracted legally.
