Janata Dal (Secular) member Sampath Kumar was unanimously elected as the president of the Mandya Taluk Panchayat here on Friday.
The election was necessitated following the resignation of T.C. Shankaregowda, who completed six months in office.
Mr. Kumar is representing Shivalli constituency in the TP. The ruling JD(S) has 20 members in the 28-member taluk panchayat. The TP has five Congress, two Independents and one BJP member.

Basavaraju, Executive Officer of Mandya TP, congratulated the newly-elected president. TP members Mahesh, S.K. Prakash, Revanna Kumar, Shivaram were present.
