The Dr. Vishnu Sena Samiti has criticised the “inaction” of the State government in constructing the Vishnuvardhan memorial even after over five years of his death. The samiti has planned an indefinite strike from June 5 near Maurya circle in Bengaluru.
V. Srinivas, president of the State Vishnu Sena Samiti, and M.D. Parthasarathy, president of the Mysuru unit, have expressed their displeasure over the delay in starting the work. Citing lack of political will, they said that the government seemed to be testing the patience of the late actor’s fans.
Two acres of lands had been given for the memorial on the Abhiman studio premises, Mr. Srinivas said and added that the memorial should be built there. The government should initiate certain serious steps to do it, considering the huge contribution made by Vishnuvardhan to the Kannada film industry, they said. The government had suggested constructing the memorial in Mysuru, Mr. Srinivas said and noted that fans and family members of the actor had reluctantly agreed to it. But later, it came to light that the government was planning to build the memorial in H.D. Kote and not Mysuru city, he said and added that it amounted to insulting the great actor.

Mr. Parthasarathy said fans had no option but to call for an indefinite agitation. He warned that they would call for a State bandh in the second week of June if the government failed to initiate steps.
