October 17, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - CHITRADURGA:

Members of the district unit of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS) took out a procession and staged a dharna outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Friday to pressure the government to provide property rights and other basic facilities to residents of Danuvina oni locality in Avargere here.

These residents were victims of flood and other natural calamites. Addressing protesters, State convener of the Samiti H. Mallesh said that more than 50 Dalit families are residing in these areas without any facilities, hoping that the district administration or the State government would come to their rescue.

The authorities concerned and the elected representatives had taken no action for them even after submitting several memoranda and staging protests. The protesters demanded that immediate steps be taken to provide property rights to these residents, and other amenities such as power supply, drainage, drinking water and roads.
