The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday ordered issue of notice to the State government and seven private schools in Bangalore on a public interest litigation petition filed by 27 children seeking admission to these schools under the Right to Education Act.
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice D.H. Waghela and Justice H.G. Ramesh passed the order after hearing the petition filed by Ashith Karthik Rao and other children, who were represented by their parents.
The petitioners were seeking admissions to Vibgyor School located at N.S Palya, Vittasandra and Somasndra Palya; Clarence School, J.P. Nagar; St. Miras School, BTM Layout; Christ School, Suddaguntepalya and St. Xavier School, Bettadasanapura.

It had been alleged in the petition that the respondent schools had refused their plea for admission under the RTE stating that the RTE Act is not applicable to them as they are minority educational institutions. The petitioners claim that no declaration on their minority status is forthcoming.
They sought the court’s direction to summon the records of the schools to verify their claims.

Justice Ram Mohan Reddy on Tuesday stayed opening of fresh bids for renovating the first and second floors of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly hall in Vidhana Soudha. The court passed the interim order on a petition filed by M/s Sanjay Marketing and Publicity Services. The petitioner-company has questioned the June 7, 2014, tender notification calling for fresh bids while contending that it was unnecessary in view of the earlier order of the High Court.
