Rs. 8.21 lakh collected as penalty from motorists

Mysore district police have collected Rs. 8.2 lakh as penalty from motorists who were found travelling without required documents and for other offences during the Road Safety Week observed from January 1.

A press release from the office of the Superintendent of Police said vehicles were checked in all the police subdivisions, and national and State highways.

A total of 5,247 cases were registered across the district.

Subdivisions

In the three subdivisions in Mysore and one in Nanjangud, 2,692 cases were booked and Rs. 3.38 lakh was collected as penalty. As many as 1,632 cases were registered in the Hunsur subdivision and Rs, 3.3 lakh was collected as penalty. In Mysore rural areas, 923 cases were registered and Rs. 1.51 lakh was collected as penalty.

A total of 125 cases were booked in Periyapatna Circle and Rs. 37,100 collected as fine; 131 in Nanjangud Circle and Rs. 19,000 collected and 72 cases in K.R. Nagar; and 16,000 collected as penalty.

Station-wise, 250 cases were booked in Periyapatna Station and Rs. 71,600 realised as fine; 522 were registered in Nanjangud station and Rs. 59,000 collected; and 451 cases in the Talakadu station for effecting a collection of Rs. 50,000.

Mysore Superintendent of Police R. Dileep has appealed to people not to indulge in drunken driving and to carry all documents related to vehicles while driving, according to the release.
