Rs. 100 crore released for crop-loss compensation

The State government has released Rs. 100 crore for paying compensation to farmers whose crops had been destroyed in the recent pre-monsoon downpour.

Interacting with presspersons at his office on Saturday, Deputy Commissioner S. Sasikanth Senthil said that he had already deposited the amount in the bank accounts of Sindhanur and Raichur Assistant Commissioners.

“This time we won’t pay compensation through cheques. We will put it directly the bank accounts of the farmers. We have already collected bank account details of around 60 per cent of the farmers who had lost their crops in the rains,” he said.

The compensation would be paid at a rate of Rs. 25,000 per hectare of damaged crop, he said.

According to details provided by Mr. Senthil, standing crops on around 40,000 hectares was destroyed in two instances of pre-monsoon rains.
