The stretch of the road from Vani Vilas Circle to Unakal Cross via Shirur Park, which runs parallel to Old PB Road here, is all set to be widened to four lane with a proposal already being sent to government.

Speaking to presspersons here on Saturday after inspecting development works in the city, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar said that officials had been directed to conduct a detailed survey as the development of a four-lane road required land acquisition.

The development of the road was part of the ongoing HD-BRTS (Hubballi Dharwad- Bus Rapid Transit System) project under which a HD-BRTS depot is coming on the same road. As the new court complex is also coming up on the same road, traffic would be doubled between Vani Vilas Circle (on Gokul Road near Shakuntala Hospital) to Unakal Cross once the depot and the court complex became functional, Mr Shettar said.

Mr. Shettar said that as the road-widening required eviction of the slum dwellers at Veera Maruti Nagar, there was need for coming up with a proper rehabilitation plan and the displaced people should be provided houses through G+2 residential apartments in the land available in the proximity.

The former Chief Minister said that the work on the new court complex was going on at a good pace and the new complex which would have most advanced amenities was likely to be ready for inauguration by December.
