The two-day 10th District-level Kannada Sahitya Sammelana organised by Belagavi District Kannada Sahitya Parishat on Friday and Saturday, adopted a resolution demanding the State government to eke out a new district out of Belagavi with Athani as its headquarter.
The Sammelans was held under the presidentship of senior writer Basavaraj Jagajampi at Athani.
Former Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Athani Laxman Savadi was Chairman of the Reception Committee of the literary meet.

The other resolutions adopted at the end of the meet were, demanding for an early implementation of the Basaveshwar Lift Irrigation Scheme, establishment of IIT in Belagavi and a focused approach to find effective solutions to prevent suicide by farmers and improve their economic conditions.
The government should devote sufficient time to discuss issues confronting farmers during the forthcoming Monsoon Session to be held at Belagavi for ten days from June 29.
District KSP President Ye.Ru. Patil, who was present at the valedictory function of the meet, assured to take up these resolutions with the government.
