Residents urge officials to clear drains, remove debris

March 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - YADGIR:

Residents of Ward No. 22, under the Yadgir City Municipal Council (CMC), urged officials to remove debris from demolition areas and clear the drains.

Residents, most of them women, went to the CMC office on Saturday and protested against the lack of action to clear cement, steel and stones from demolition site.

The CMC had recently launched demolition operation to widen two majorin roads, from CMC office to Mailapur base via Gandhi Chowk and Gandhi Chowk to Hattikuni cross, in the old city.

They said that most of drains were damaged during the operation. In the absence of a proper drain system, drainage water from individual houses continued to flow on the street roads. However, officials have not taken action to clear the drain effectively, they added.

They also pointed out that residents feared about health related issues because the open place, where drainage water is flowing, was becoming breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

Khaja Moinuddin, commissioner of CMC, who attended the resident’s problems, has said that he would suggest officials to take immediate action and clear debris from the demolition site and restore the drains.
