Rehearsal begins for Shivamogga Jamboo Savari

Three elephants will walk through the streets on Saturday

Rehearsal for the Jamboo Savari in Shivamogga under way near Sakrebail elephant camp on Wednesday.

The rehearsal for the Jamboo Savari that will be held in Shivamogga on Saturday, marking the conclusion of Shivamogga Dasara-2017, has commenced at Sakrebail elephant camp near here.

Three tamed elephants from the camp — Sagar, 28, Gange, 68, and Geetha, 63, will take part in the procession. While Sagar will carry the 350-kg howdah made of German silver, Gange and Geetha will accompany him.

During the rehearsals, being held daily on the outskirts of Sakrebail since Monday, Sagar, with the howdah mounted on him, is made to walk a distance of 4 km. Gange and Geetha also accompany him.

The elephants are expected to arrive in Shivamogga city on Thursday. On Saturday, the Jamboo Savari will commence from the premises of Kote Shivappa Nayaka Palace. The procession will pass through Ramanna Shreshty Park, Gandhi Bazaar, Amir Ahmed Circle, Nehru Road, Kuvempu Road, Shivamurthy Circle and Mahaveer Circle, before concluding at Nehru Stadium, where the ‘shami puja’ will be held.

On Friday, the elephants will walk along the procession route in the city.
