Red sanders seized

The Forest Department personnel seized a truck-load of red sanders worth more than Rs. 5 crore in the international market and arrested two persons near a check-post on the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway 4 under Nippani Town Police limits on Wednesday.

Officials said that the consignment was being smuggled from Chennai to Mumbai. During inspection, the two drivers of the truck were unable to produce documents in support of the red sanders. The names of the arrested persons were given as Muniyappa (62) and Prakash (32). Officials said that the red sanders stock was concealed under coconut  bags.
