Recruitment by KPSC under a cloud

The recruitment by Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) for selecting 362 gazetted probationers is under a cloud with many aspirants accusing the commission members of demanding bribe for selection and various social and student organisations seeking a probe into the selection process.

Members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and Students Federation of India (SFI) staged a protest here on Thursday demanding a probe into the alleged irregularities and seeking guidelines to check corruption in the commission.

The protesters also sought transparency in the selection process on the lines of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and punishment for the guilty.

Addressing the gathering, B. Rajashekaramurthy, State secretary of DYFI, alleged that bribe was demanded at the time of interview.

‘Over 70 complaints’

Addressing presspersons, the former Minister B.K. Chandrashekar alleged that some members of the commission had demanded bribe from Karnataka Administrative Service aspirants who have been selected for interview. “Over 70 candidates, who have appeared for interview, have complained to me about the ‘demands’ made by members of the commission for selection,” he said.

Prof. Chandrashekar appealed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T.B. Jayachandra to “discuss the issue threadbare” and find a solution.

“The problem lies in members having access to marks scored by candidates in the written examination,” he said.
