In what appeared to be a soft stand on the BJP-led NDA Government, former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda on Friday said he would not get into the blackmoney row now as he felt the government required more time to bring back the blackmoney stashed abroad.

Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Deve Gowda said although the Government was making efforts to keep its election manifesto promise, it was not easy as there were many legal issues. He quickly added, “But this does not mean I am supporting the BJP government or softening my stand. As a former Prime Minister I am aware of the international rules. I will make my stand clear during the budget session,” he said.
Urging the government to concentrate on recovering blackmoney being circulated within the country, the former Prime Minister said, “Although political parties make several promises in the election manifestos, it will take some time to implement them.”
Bringing blackmoney back into the country involves amending laws, subject to the acceptance of international communities, he added.
