Road repairs not

completed

Sir, — Recently, road repair works were carried out at certain places. But it is seen that in many places repair works are not carried out though the rainy season is fast approaching. To cite an example, the Don Bosco Hall Road has a (near Rexine Center ) lot of deep potholes which are causing a lot of inconvenience to motorists as well as pedestrians. When other adjacent roads are repaired with patch work, why is this stretch left out?

Kudos to Alva’s,

Dakshina Kannada

Sir, — Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts are toppers in the educational field. This year’s PU results too were good with Dakshina Kannada district hogging the limelight with top honours closely followed by Udupi district. I take this opportunity to congratulate all the students, their family, their teachers, school authorities and the Education Department. Alva’s Pre University College with 4, 076 students taking the PU examination was successful as 4,061 students (99.63 per cent) passed. This is undoubtedly an excellent performance.Vishwanath Kotekar,

Education has

become commercial

Sir, — The education system has become a purely commercial venture for the so-called educationists. The candidates who pass SSLC or equivalent are just like their customers. The attitude of the parents also contributes to this problem. The pre-university colleges in the city are collecting fees according to their whims and fancies. This fees is ranging from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 1,50,000 or even more in different colleges. Are there not any guidelines or criteria?Hareesh Kumar Kudthadka,
