Rape case: in-laws of complainant questioned

May 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - MYSURU:

The mother-in-law and father-in-law of the daughter of a retired IAS officer, who are facing charges of dowry harassment and abetment of rape, have been questioned by the police.

Commissioner of Mysuru city police B. Dayananda told The Hindu that the two had surrendered before the investigating officer (IO) of the case at the V.V. Puram police station on Friday. “Subsequently, the formalities were completed to release them on bail as directed by a city court,” he said. “Their interrogation has begun. Further questioning will continue,” Mr. Dayananda added. The daughter of the retired IAS officer had lodged a complaint of rape and dowry harassment against her in-laws, besides accusing her brother-in-law of raping her while she was eight months pregnant.

It may be mentioned here that a city court had granted anticipatory bail to the complainant’s mother-in-law and the father-in-law on April 28 on the condition that they surrender before the IO within 15 days and cooperate with the police in its investigation into the case. The questioning could not be held on Monday as the complainant had come to the V.V. Puram police station in connection with the case.

“However, the questioning of the accused could resume later in the night today,” Mr. Dayananda said on Monday. The police said the complainant too arrived at the V.V. Puram along with her father, mother, brother, husband and baby as part of the investigation. The complainant’s brother-in-law, who is accused of rape, is still absconding. A city court had rejected his anticipatory bail plea.
