Ramya visits Mysore Sugar Company, educational institutions

She asks officials to quickly complete the ongoing repair work

Ramya, ex-MP, paid a random visit to the State-owned Mysore Sugar Company Ltd. (Mysugar) here on Monday and requested the officials to complete the ongoing repair work within the stipulated time.

The actor-turned-politician, who was accompanied by a team of officials from the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR) in 2014, inspected various divisions of the factory and held interactive sessions with officials.

“Mysore Sugar Company is the oldest sugar factories in the country. We all should work towards its revival,” she told presspersons.

Sugarcane growers in a majority of places in Mandya district were entirely dependant on the factory for their livelihood. Therefore, the officials should complete the ongoing repair work at the earlier and facilitate its reopening. Farmers would be happy with the recommencement of cane crushing activities, she said.

The officials said that they would start the sugar production activities by November-end.

Ms. Ramya met some employees, who were protesting against their dismissal, on the premises of the mill and expressed solidarity with them.

To Ananya

Earlier, Ms. Ramya visited ‘Ananya’, the first extension centre of the Karnataka State Women’s University (KSWU) of Vijayapura, at B. Hosur village in the district, and urged the officials to provide proper security to students.

Students had recently staged a protest against ‘Ananya’ director C. Kannan for his “anti-students” policies.She met some of the students and interacted with them.

The officials were allowing men to enter the hostel premises, the students alleged.

Later, Ms. Ramya contacted senior KSWU officials at Vijayapura and demanded better security around the hostel premises.

Ms. Ramya also visited ‘Kendriya Vidyalaya’ at B. Hosuru on Monday.
