Railway employees describe Debroy report as anti-labour

July 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - MYSURU:

Members of the South Western Railway Mazdoor Union in Mysuru Division observed Black Day on Tuesday in protest against the recommendations of the Bibek Debroy Committee report on restructuring of Railways.

Members of the union wore black badges and demonstrated, waving black flag, during lunch hour, but there was no disruption in the services or at work at the Central Workshop at Ashokapuram. The report had suggested entry of private players in operating trains as also the non-core areas like production and construction.

The protesters dubbed the report as anti-employees and anti-labour and wanted the government to reject its recommendations.

The employees raised some of their long-pending demands on the occasion. Their demands included wage revision, interim relief and merger of 100 per cent dearness allowance (DA) with basic pay, scrapping of the New Pension Scheme and reintroduction of the Defined Benefit Statutory Pension Scheme, among others. They wanted the ceiling on bonus removed and five promotions during the service career of every employee, besides filling up all vacant posts.
