Raichur CMC members criticise cleaning drive

January 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - RAICHUR:

Some of the members of the Raichur City Municipal Council (CMC) criticised Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth S. Senthil for his special drive to clean the city and the others congratulated him for the same reason, at a special general body meeting convened at the CMC office here on Tuesday.

The contradictory stances by of the members caused confusion for a while among other members, the public and media representatives.

Some members, including CMC standing committee president Narasappa Yeklaspur, members Anjaneya Yeklaspur, Mahalinga Rampur, A. Mareppa, Jayanna and Seema Nadaf, alleged that Deputy Commissioner had spent Rs. 80 lakh without taking the CMC into confidence. Some other members upheld the Deputy Commissioner’s cleaning drive, but objected that he spent money without consulting the CMC.

Amid the high anti-DC wave, CMC Commissioner G. Ramadas clarified most of the issues raised by the members.

“It is improper to object to the Deputy Commissioner’s cleaning drive, as the issue of maintaining sanitation and cleanliness in urban areas was emphasised even in the Lok Adalat. The drive is indeed a model for others,” the CMC commissioner said. The CMC commissioner said that there were 228 pourakarmika posts, of which only 115 were in-position and 269 people were taken on contract basis.

“Since most of the members are unaware of the workforce engaged, we have instructed all the workers to provide their details along with their photos within three days,” the CMC commissioner said.
